Epoxy Lining of Manholes On-Going

Last week, DiMeo Brothers completed excavating and adjusting the manholes to final grade along the entire length of Colfax Avenue.  Temporary rubber ramps have been installed around all manholes so they may be driven over.

Also last week, Kim Construction, was on-site beginning the process of internal lining the existing storm and sanitary sewer manholes. The lining is a 3 step process. First the interior of the manholes is cleaned. The second step is to make any necessary repairs to the inside of the manholes and make the interior of the manhole smooth. Finally, an epoxy liner is sprayed on the interior of the manhole. The epoxy liner prevents corrosion of the existing structure and extends the useful life of the manhole. The entire process is completed without any additional excavation around the manhole.

The contractor is currently working on the first phase, cleaning. It is anticipated it will take 1 to 2 weeks to complete all 3 phases for all the manholes.

A majority of the work is completed at this time. The major items remaining to be completed are asphalt surface paving, post-construction sewer televising, and landscape restoration.

The Village is currently in discussions with NICOR Gas to determine their schedule for completing the gas main and service replacement project. Depending on the timeframe of these improvements, the asphalt surface layer and landscape restoration may be completed following this work.

Have a safe and enjoyable Labor Day Weekend!!!
